About us
Supporting young advocates since 2016.
Moot Court, a traditional law school activity now growing in the undergraduate arena, prepares students for the rigors of arguing a case before a court of appeals. We hope to build a program that provides not only good instruction and training for students in their future endeavors, but also to create a program that is competitive nationally.
The undergraduate mooting program is devoted to the practice of oral legal advocacy through moot competitions. The Moot Board at the University of Toronto is responsible for selecting a team of mooters at the beginning of each academic year, who then compete on behalf of the University at moot competitions across North America. Students are prepared for competitions through workshops, seminars, and practice sessions, where mooters can receive direct feedback on their arguments and style. The UofT Moot Team is proud to have won many awards at competitions nation-wide. In 2022, we were the sole team to represent the University of Toronto and Canada at American Moot Court Association Nationals. In 2023, we have qualified for American Nationals again as the only Canadian team. For more information regarding our tournament success, please see the “our team” page.
Our team members and executives have since gone on to attend prestigious law schools (including but not limited to NYU, Stanford, Harvard, UCLA, & U of T), clerk for the ONCA & the SCC, and work at top law firms across the globe (including but not limited to Lenczer Slaght, Davis Polk & Wardell LLP, Selendy Gay PLLC, and Kirkland & Ellis LLP).
We seek to continue leading by example and inspiring excellence.
